Like the bold hero you are, you stride bravely into the darkness of this cosy litle corner, totally unheeding of tasteful litle tapestry footstools or tiny glass tables with plastic gnomes on them.

However your bravado seems to have been a total waste, sinse the only thing in this alcove is a boring old fancy pedistal filled with impressively ominous looking signs, a totally needless amount of corners, and enough shimmery bits to make costume jewelery for a very well accesserized army.

You eagerly look atop the needlessly elaborate thing, wondering if you'll find some mystic treasure of ancient days, a magic weapon of unimaginable power, or a holy relic of a lost civilization.

What you do find is a total shock! a large, flat, slightly pink, clearly dead, though apparently stil very fresh fish!

You wonder exactly why someone would construct such a needlessly showey pedistal, ---- which is afterall only another term for a very small table with almost no reasonable surface space, and stick a dead fish on it, then again, you find yourself wondering why a lot of things in this insane dungeon are done the way they are.

Hastily, you glance around, looking for one of those convenient, ---- if often slightly misleading signs, but the only thing you can find is a guilded inscription atop the pedistal just under the hunk of dead fish which reads:

minius Clupea harengus.

"Harengus"

you think, ---- as in Herring.

Then suddenly your blood runs cold as the ful and chilling realization of the diabollical device of cunning that you have encountered hits you squarely in whatever it is chilling knolidge usually hits.

you have encountered the fabled red herring!

If you wish to take it, make a note, but remember that it could be just a red herring, ---- probably because it is! in fact just a red herring.

Sinse there is a total lack of secret levers and mystic runes on the pedistal, you decide to

return to the corridor.

The horrible dungeons of dreadful doom.
